Geology lecture in Slane

Members and friends of Slane History & Archaeology Society listened attentively in the Conyngham Arms hotel last week while Dr Robert Meehan expertly dealt with the geology of the Slane area. His illustrated lecture, clarity and relaxed form of communication wowed the attendees, many of whom had previously expressed that their understanding of geology was minimal. After his talk however, they vowed they were on the road to Damascus having grasped many complexities.

At the tea break people were chatting about many aspects of the talk including the ice sheets and their effects, local place names with a geological connection, quarries, and the three chief rock areas around Slane where fossils can easily be seen. This talk has shown the surrounding environment to attendees in a new light. All are immeasurably thankful to Robert for a superb presentation. Dr Meehan
